Palms

Palms--SOLD, originally uploaded by Kathryn Law.

6" X 6", o/c.(SOLD) My neighborhood palms. Always there, always beautiful and swaying with the breeze, a good example of bending and not breaking. This was a very quick and spontaneous painting, a reaction to acute frustration. I started with another color study, in sunlight this time, so there was time pressure and it did not go well--then the light was gone. I'm still too focused on the drawing rather than the color masses, and I guess that's why I need to do a zillion more color studies and need to find that meditative, relaxed full-color mindset that Sarback talks about. After all that, this painting felt like cutting loose.

Bold and beautiful; a direct and uninhibited response to swaying palms with lovely strong colours applied with verve. I like it!

I appreciate that David, you are someone who understands "bold and beautiful".
